Tips
Back to topWhen it is done searching, open the folder 'The Simpsons: Hit and Run' (NOTE: do not open the FILE below it, for it will open the game and we don't want that yet). Once in the folder make a backup folder of 'Scripts' & 'Art'. Open 'Scripts' and then open 'Vehicles'. We'll start with something simple so right click 'v_famili' and choose open with Notepad (Never choose Word or something like that because Notepad is the game's scripting engine)
You should see a window pop-up titled 'Notepad v_famili (Read Only)' With Read Only on you cant alter the files. So minimize this window and highlight all the files in the 'Vehicles', right click 'Properties' and down the bottom of the new window you should see:
◘ Read only -selected-
◘ Hidden
Click the read only square and click 'Apply' then exit. Maximize v_famili and you will now see scripting codes like
setgasscale:120.00 ect. (!!!!NEVER MESS WITH setbrakescale BECAUSE IT WILL CRASH THE GAME!!!!). So play around with the codes and if you need help with the scripting/coding, PM me for more help!!!
Level 1: Go to the rich neighborhood and drive to the Gold house. In front of it there is a rocket car. Homer can drive in it at high speeds but watch out, it can be destroyed very easily.
Level 2: Go to the Monorail station and walk up the stairs. When up the top, go to the first car of the Broken Monorail and get in it. You can now drive the broken Monorail along the roads.
Level 3: This is the only car that I can't give a description of. But I know it is Knightboat. Find it around the bay.
Level 4: This car is actually a four-wheeler Motorbike (Quad bike). Just go to the Trailer park as Marge and find near a caravan. It is fast but very hard to handle.
Level 5: Apu's Special Car is very easy to find. Just go to the Springfield Stadium and on a large platform, there will be a Monster Truck. You can get in it a demolish anything you may find! Mwahahaha!
Level 6: Go to Planet Hype's Roof and fall off just a bit, so you fall on the pink Cadillac that is stuck onto it's wall.
Level 7: Climb on the Tankers and Fire Trucks to reach the Roof of the 'Spooky Burger' next to the 'Spook-e-Mart' and on top there wil be a Toy RC that you can actually drive.

Grand Theft Springfield
The Simpsons Hit and Run is an action-adventure game developed by Radical Entertainment for the PlayStation 2 and other platforms. Thought to be inspired by the Grand Theft Auto series, the aim of the game is to complete missions while playing as various members of The Simpson’s cast (Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa & Apu).
Simpsons games have a history of mimicking the formula of popular games and franchises, especially during the early 2000s. For example, The Simpsons Skateboarding (2002) follows the Tony Hawks Pro Skater premise and The Simpsons Wrestling (2001) was similar to many of the popular WWF wrestling games. The Simpsons Road Rage was so much like Crazy Taxi that SEGA filed a lawsuit for patent infringement.
The majority of these games (Excluding The Simpsons Road Rage) were received very poorly and none were as successful as The Simpsons Hit & Run. One reason for this is likely due to the massive surge in popularity that the Grand Theft Auto series garnered following the release of GTA III.
But there’s more to account for its success than a simple matter of piggybacking. Unlike others, The Simpsons Hit & Run is an entertaining and well-polished game. It’s generally considered to be the best Simpsons game to date and it’s hard to argue otherwise.
A Sandbox Springfield
The Simpsons Hit and Run has a traditional sandbox style to it. You progress through the game by completing a series of missions, but also have the ability to free-roam whenever you please. While free-roaming, players can hunt for collectibles, sightsee and cause general light havoc.
Naturally, the level of havoc you’ll be causing is in no way on the same level as Grand Theft Auto. Violence and destruction have been considerably scaled-down in comparison to suit the spirit of the Simpsons universe. “Attacking” pedestrians as Homer, for example, involves clumsily kicking them, causing the NPC to fall over. The ragdoll physics are slightly exaggerated and it’s quite humorous to watch the NPC’s manically flail around on the floor.
Collect Them All!
We previously touched on the ability to hunt for collectibles while playing The Simpsons Hit and Run.
The main collectible in this game is collector cards. These are scattered throughout the map, on each level, waiting to be found by the player.
Each card features a notable object from the TV series, all of which are nice call-backs to memorable episodes from the show. Some examples of these include –
- The Mr. Sparkle Box (Episode 175: In Marge We Trust).
- A Bonestorm Game (Episode 139: Marge Be Not Proud).
- Bart’s Soul (Episode 132: Bart Sells His Soul).
- The Mr. Plow Jacket (Episode 68: Mr. Plow).
- A Pin Pals Shirt (Episode 140: Team Homer).
- The Gabbo Doll (Episode 81: Krusty Gets Kancelled).
- The Time Travel Toaster (Episode 109: Treehouse of Horror V).
There are 7 levels in The Simpsons Hit & Run and 7 collector cards to collect on each level, making for 49 cards in total.
While not exactly a collectible, buzz cola coins can be accumulated by destroying various objects and enemies throughout the game. These coins can then be used to purchase additional vehicles and new costumes for each character.
Simpsons Hit and Run Vehicles
There are plenty of vehicles to get behind the wheel of in The Simpsons Hit and Run. Most are tied to the series in one way or another.
The vehicles can be earned in a variety of ways. You can buy them, earn them, discover them or simply progress through the story.
Vehicles You Can Buy
Once you have accumulated enough buzz cola coins, you can purchase vehicles from various Simpsons characters. Some examples of vehicles you can buy include the following:
- Plow King (From Barney in Level 1).
- Plow (From Homer in Level 2).
- School Bus (From Otto in Level 3).
- Tractor (From Willie in Level 4).
- The Car Built for Homer (From Homer in Level 5).
- Globex Super Villain Car (From Kearney in Level 6).
Secret Cars
Each of the 7 levels also features a secret car for the player to find. Most vehicles can be recalled from phonebooths once you have unlocked them, these secret cars, however, cannot be. You can only access them from the location that you find them. The secret vehicles are as follows:
- Speed Rocket (Level 1 – Found by The Golden House).
- Monorail Car (Level 2 – Found next to the Monorail Station near the Googolplex).
- Knight Boat (Level 3 – Found inside a green shipping container on the “C-Spanker” ship).
- ATV (Level 4 – Found at The Royal King Trailer Park).
- Obliteration Big Wheel Truck (Level 5 -Found at the stadium by the water fountain).
- Planet Hype 50’s Car (Level 6 – Found at the Planet Hype).
- R/C Buggy (Level 7 – Found on the roof of Krusty Burger).
It’s worth noting that there is an Unlock All Cars cheat code. This will allow the player to use the secret cars whenever they please and with different characters. However, you can only input this specific cheat code once you have completed the game to 100%.
Once you have a 100% save file, go to the options menu, hold L1 + R1 and then press X, O, X, O. The secret cars can then be accessed via the phonebooth.
Play Dress Up
There are a number of outfits that you can buy for each character using Buzz Cola coins. Some notable costumes include:
- Homer – MuuMuu (From Episode 135 King-Size Homer).
- Bart – Bartman (From Episode 21 Three Men and a Comic Book).
- Lisa – Cool (From Episode 153 Summer of 4 Ft. 2).
- Marge – Police (From Episode 126 The Springfield Connection).
